K, I believe you are right if votes were decided this way. Most people actually vote emotionally. Unless a lot of things change quickly and people recognize the leader as the reason for the change/improvement, they are more prone to look for another person. Trump was very successful o keep his name and what he was doing top of mind and ear all the time. It did not even matter is most of what was shouted were lies.

The less loud methodical approach would lead to much better results — no doubt. The problem is that the system does not work that we. We have zero attention span and a strong “what have you done for me lately” culture.
