The problem, if we want to address ti as a problem, is systemic. Its similar to ants in an anthill or bees in a bee hive. Our media, and Umair you too in your article, are basically writing about the every queen in the bee hive. The bee isn't evil or consciously treating all other individuals badly. The system that bees and ants have adopted works for them.

Humans are still trying to find the best system for themselves and the one we observe is the latest iteration. Elon isn't spending one minute in a year thinking about the systemic impact her personally has on civilization. I am sure he would keep trying to work on and solve the problems he loves even if that would not result in any large amount of money - as long as it would still be possible.
