Well said Carlton. I have the distinct impression that the goal of forming a more perfect union before allowing liberty for all is a great tool that can always be used to declare that there is still a lot of room to get even closer to the perfect union. Every president I have ever heard speaking in election campaigns or during very important speeches used a version of the phrase “…work for and on a more perfect union…”. A realist like me might conclude that this excuse will hold till the end of time or the United States has descended so far into darkness that liberty for all becomes a forgotten and never realized dream.
